What's On the Workbench?
This course will teach you the understanding and safety of woodworking machines used to take rough lumber to a finished project. Students will learn safe and confident operation of the jointer, planer, table saw, band saw, and router. While building a side-grain cutting board from start to finish in a professional woodshop over 5 weeks of 3 hours each session.
The focus is on safety, sequencing, and understanding why each machine is used so students leave with transferable skills they can apply to future projects.
Materials: Domestic hardwoods (maple, cherry, walnut), glue, clamps, sandpaper, food safe oil.
Class Objectives
Wood Knowledge
Learn how to identify grain direction, understand wood movement, and select lumber suitable for functional projects.
Machine Knowledge
Gain hands-on experience with core shop machines, including proper setup, safe operation, and common mistakes to avoid.
Hands-On Experience
Students will mill, glue, shape, sand, and finish their own cutting board while learning efficient workflows and safe shop habits.

We can host your groups, but will have the same student-teacher ratio!
