Make Your Own Planter + Stand

Ever bought a planter that looked great… until you realized the plant wobbled or the stand didn’t quite fit? In this collaborative two-part workshop, you’ll create both a custom clay planter and a matching wooden stand.

This is a multidisciplinary class that bridges two creative spaces:

  • Part 1 (Clay Planter): At Clay Space, you’ll hand-build a planter using rolled slab techniques. Instructors will guide you through shaping, joining, and texturing your piece. Glazing and firing will be handled for you, and you’ll be notified when your finished planter is ready for pickup.

  • Part 2 (Wooden Stand): At Toronto Crafts, you’ll head into the woodshop to craft a custom stand that perfectly fits your planter's base size, using the bandsaw, drill press and some sanding to then oil finish the piece.

No prior clay or woodworking experience needed — this class is all about experimenting, getting your hands dirty (literally), and leaving with a one-of-a-kind piece that blends two crafts.

What You Will Learn

  • Hand-Building with Slabs: Rolling, cutting, and joining clay rolls to form a planter.

  • Texture & Form: Adding surface detail and shaping for both function and aesthetics.

  • Planter base in the Wood-shop: Cutting, assembling, and finishing a wooden stand. to adore your handmade planter!

  • Finishing Touches: Glazing (done for you), firing, and pickup of your completed planter.

You’ll leave with a finished clay planter and a custom wooden stand — ready to display at home or give as a gift. ( Planter will be ready for pick up after Clay Space does the firing and glaze.)
