Wood Pyrography / Wood Burning Basics
Curious about wood burning and creating artwork directly onto wood? In this 2–3 hour introduction to pyrography, you’ll learn the fundamentals of wood burning techniques, safety, temperature control, line work, shading, and texture through guided demonstrations and practice exercises.
What’s on the Work Bench?
- Pyrography wood burning tools and interchangeable tips
- Practice boards and sample pieces
- Small wooden objects like coasters, frames, or panels
- Sandpaper, pencils, stencils, and finishing materials
- Safety equipment and guided demonstrations
We’ll begin with a short theory and safety overview, followed by sample boards and test pieces to help you get comfortable with the tools before moving into your own creative exploration. Once you’ve practiced the basics, you’ll create a small personalized object using pyrography techniques — either on an item you bring from home or one we provide.
This class is focused on slowing down, experimenting, and building a relationship with the material through mark-making, texture, and process. No prior experience is needed.
