What are we building?
In this class, we will teach you to carve a design of your choosing onto 5”x7” mounted firm linoleum block with carving tools. You will learn how to make colourful prints with your blocks.
This is an introductory class that is a precursor and introduction to the traditional art of wood block printing, as seen in the works of Japanese artist Hokusai, traditional Indian Bagru printing, and block printed art like works by Mary Wrinch at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
You will be taking home your beautiful lino prints and your carved linocut block, and any extra prints we made together during the workshop.
You are welcome to bring your own designs at 5”x7” size. Please ensure that you bring several simple designs so we can help you to choose the best option for this beginner class. We will also be providing some designs in the studio for you to choose from.
